I was born and educated in Germany.

From earliest memory, I viewed the world and its contents from the perspective of an artist at an easel, wishing to draw things that touched me emotionally.

I studied and became  a teacher with an emphasis in basic arts and crafts for children and engaged in that work for nearly a decade. I left my home and country in my early thirties, as all artists and adventurers, to expand my experience of the world, that I might expand the world of expression in me.

I have lived for several years in Key West, FL, where I witnessed and survived several hurricanes,  worked at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, NM, and moved to Guerneville, CA, in the fall of 2007.

I was never 'formally' trained in the techniques of art, never attended a school of arts nor did I ever feel drawn there. Where I felt drawn instead was to the companionship of artists in my youth and in the US, fascinated by their perspectives and their processes, the techniques they employed and the tension between creativity and the commerce of life and making a living. I learned far more from these artists than I can quantify in words but their work informed, inspired and ignited my own process of discovery and discipline.

In my own work, I am drawn to faces, the many faces of the land and sea and the many faces of people. This is the passion that places me before every new canvas, the notion that if I paint what I feel when I look closely, others will also feel the beauty of a still rock, an errant wave or a passing glance, the language of life captured in arbitrary and exquisite moments.

After moving to Sonoma I was immediately fascinated by the Coast Line and the Ocean and am currently working on a series of paintings revolving around those subjects.
